As part of an effort to expand the available public object storage in this BETA resource, we'll be doing some maintenance starting Saturday 1.30 @ 8:00am CST that will make the OSDC Griffin resource (both compute and object store) unavailable until the close of business on Wednesday 2.10. We recommend users save then terminate any running VMs after pushing any files desired from VM ephemeral storage into the object storage. All user data in public object storage when maintenance begins will be restored once maintenance is complete.
Full maintenance details are below. Thank you for your patience during this maintenance window as we improve available services.
OSDC Griffin storage and compute maintenance
Who is Affected:
All OSDC Griffin internal users and anyone accessing public files at griffin-objstore.opensciencedatacloud.org
How am I Affected:
Services will be unavailable until maintenance is complete.
Once access is granted, users will want to check their home directory for a new s3creds.txt bucket key. Once user access is granted, initial object store access may not be performative as we continue to sync back non-user public data sets. Once these syncs are complete (1-2 weeks after users are back on), we expect performance to improve.
- Change the Ceph pools to erasure coding so we can offer more public object storage.
- Upgrade Ceph OS.
- Add additional hardware to further expand capacity.
- Upgrade OpenStack from Juno to Liberty.
- Upgrading OS on networking switches.
Once the resource is available to users, an all-clear notice will be emailed and posted on the support portal. Thank you.
